Swedish photographer Erik Johansson creates mind-bending, M.C. Escher-esque illusion photos from composite photographs and a little Photoshop magic. “For me the realism has always been very important,” Erik writes on his website. “It’s a challenge to make a sketch come to life in a photo.” However you spin it, these compositions are pretty incredible if only a little unsettling.
It’s difficult to ignore the M.C. Escher influence in Erik’s work.
In addition to his own art, Erik does commissioned work as well. The pieces with cars were created as part of a campaign against driving under the influence of drugs.
Watch behind the scenes to see how Erik Johansson creates these incredible illusion photos.
Based on the video, Erik is part painter, part photographer, and part digital artist. It’s no wonder his work has gained the attention of marketers from Google, Adobe and Microsoft. Many of his works are available in print form from his website.
