In the Chiang Rai Province of Thailand stands Wat Rong Khun, or the White Temple. This beautiful architecture is part Buddhist temple, part art exhibit and part scene from some kind of horror movie. Local artist Chalermchai Kositpipat designed and built the White Temple as a replacement for a prior Wat Rong Khun that had fallen into disrepair. Even this new temple, built in 1997, was nearly lost when it was damaged in an earthquake in 2014 and closed. After engineers examined the structure and determined it to be strong enough to be repaired, Kositpipat decided to reopen the temple for tourism.
